Our aim
EventSheets aims to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level AA for every page a visitor, an attendee or an organiser uses. The site is built in Arabic and English, reads right-to-left and left-to-right, and is meant to work on a phone as well as a desktop.
What is in place
- Every button and link carries a text label; no control is an icon alone.
- Colour contrast on toolbar and action buttons was measured in a browser and brought to 4.5:1 or better where it fell short.
- Forms state which formats and sizes they accept before you choose a file, and say in words what went wrong when a save is refused.
- Dates are written out with their year in both calendars, and times carry their time zone and are shown in yours.
- Printed material (certificates, tent cards, badges) is generated at real sizes for your own printer, with no colour fills that would print grey.
- Error pages are in the reader's language and say what to do next.
Known limitations
- The administration screens and the larger data tables were built on a 2016 theme and have not yet been audited with a screen reader; keyboard navigation inside them is uneven.
- Some older pages still use icon fonts that do not always render; we are replacing them page by page.
- Event descriptions, images and attached files are written and uploaded by organisers; the site cannot guarantee that an organiser's PDF is tagged or that an image carries a description.
- The map page depends on a third-party map and is not usable without a pointer; the same events are available as a list, an archive and a calendar.
