1What it is
A credential for the language teacher, authorising them to conduct the oral proficiency interview and rate it on the ACTFL scale, at two levels: limited, for novice and intermediate, and full, for all levels. It is one of the most valuable credentials a teacher of Arabic to non-native speakers can hold, as it lets them assess students against a standard Western universities understand.
2Who it suits
Teachers of Arabic to non-native speakers in universities and language institutes.
3What it requires
Affiliation with an academic institution (private companies do not qualify), a degree in a field related to language teaching, and a very high level in the language of certification.
4How it is earned
A training workshop first, then an application within a set period after it, then recorded interviews reviewed by ACTFL in stages until certification. Arabic workshops are held infrequently, so follow ACTFL's announcements and Arabic teachers' associations.
