1What it is
Professional recognition of the quality of university teaching at four levels (Associate Fellow, Fellow, Senior Fellow and Principal Fellow) according to the nature of the practice, from teaching assistant to someone who leads education in their institution. It is judged on evidence of actual practice rather than by exam; it is widespread in British universities and spreading in Gulf universities that adopt it through internal schemes.
2Who it suits
Faculty members, lecturers and teaching assistants, and leaders of learning and teaching in universities.
3What it requires
Actual practice in teaching or supporting learning; the fellowship category is chosen by the scope and impact of the role.
4How it is earned
Either a direct application with a written account of practice and evidence, mapped to the Professional Standards Framework, or an accredited programme within the university that leads to fellowship. Check first whether your university has an accredited scheme; it is the easier route.
When a centre or body posts a course that prepares for it, we send you one email about it.
