CITI

CITI Program: Human Subjects Research and Responsible Conduct of Research

Training skill Research

1What it is

Online courses that are the most widely used way, in American universities and many others, of showing that a researcher has been trained before their study goes to an ethics committee: human subjects research in a biomedical and a social-behavioural-educational track, and the responsible conduct of research, covering authorship, data management and research misconduct. They are usually requested when a researcher joins a project with, or funded by, a foreign university.

2Who it suits

Researchers, postgraduate students and ethics committee members, and anyone joining research funded by or shared with a foreign institution.

3What it requires

No academic prerequisite. Access is usually through a university subscription, and some courses are open to individual learners.

4How it is earned

The learner picks the track that fits the study, each module has a short quiz, and the result is a completion record attached to the committee application. Ask the reviewing body which course it requires, as there are many tracks.

Tell me when a course for this is announced

When a centre or body posts a course that prepares for it, we send you one email about it.
