1What it is
A professional credential for those who run the day-to-day work of human research ethics committees (IRBs): reviewing submissions for completeness, expedited and exempt determinations, handling noncompliance, and organising meetings and minutes. It is earned by an exam on participant protection regulations and on committee and institutional responsibilities. The exam is built on US regulations, so it serves best those whose institutions work with them.
2Who it suits
Research ethics committee coordinators and administrators in universities, university hospitals and research centres.
3What it requires
At least two years of full-time experience administering IRB work in recent years, with part-time work counted proportionally; serving as a committee member, or dealing with the committee as a researcher, is not enough.
4How it is earned
An application with proof of experience and a CV, then a computer-based multiple-choice exam at a test centre or online with a proctor.
When a centre or body posts a course that prepares for it, we send you one email about it.
