Certified Information Professional (CIP)

Professional certification Libraries and archives
Granted by AIIM (Association for Intelligent Information Management) Usual length Two to four months of preparation Level Intermediate to advanced

The awarding body’s page Fees, dates and entry requirements are there, not here.

What it is

A credential in information management in the broad sense: creating, capturing and sharing content, extracting intelligence from it, digitalising document-heavy processes, automating governance and compliance, and planning and implementing an information management strategy. It sits closer to enterprise content management and electronic records than to historical archives.

Who it suits

Document and digital content managers, process analysts, and those working on electronic records and content management systems.

What it requires

No formal prerequisites or required training; AIIM recommends several years of experience in at least one of the exam areas.

How it is earned

A single closed-book multiple-choice exam taken online with a proctor. AIIM announces on its page a move to a new version of the exam, so check before preparing.
