1What it is
The senior professional registration for librarians and information professionals in Britain, recognised beyond it. It is earned not by exam but by a portfolio showing professional development, the impact of the candidate's work on their organisation and an understanding of the sector, with support from a trained mentor. The institute has a level below it (Certification) and one above it (Fellowship).
2Who it suits
Academic and public librarians, information and knowledge management specialists, and those who help researchers reach sources.
3What it requires
Membership of the institute, which is open to people living outside the UK.
4How it is earned
Enrol in professional registration after joining, choose a mentor, build the portfolio with no binding deadline, then submit it for assessment.
When a centre or body posts a course that prepares for it, we send you one email about it.
