1What it is
An education programme from the Society of American Archivists on handling born-digital records: appraising, acquiring, describing, preserving and providing access to them, and the tools involved. Its courses are arranged in four tiers, from foundations through tactics and tools to institutional transformation. Any course can be taken on its own, or the certificate can be pursued by passing a set number of courses and their exams, then a comprehensive exam.
2Who it suits
Archivists, special collections librarians and records officers in universities and government bodies who now receive files, correspondence and data in digital form.
3What it requires
The programme page states no prerequisite for taking the courses; candidates choose courses that match their existing knowledge across the tiers.
4How it is earned
Courses are offered online and in live interactive formats, each with a short exam, followed by a comprehensive exam held in cycles the society announces during the year. Coursework must be finished within a period set on the programme page.
When a centre or body posts a course that prepares for it, we send you one email about it.
