1What it is
A degree-level qualification in public service interpreting: courts, police, hospitals and local authorities. It has five units: consecutive and simultaneous interpreting, sight translation into and out of English, and written translation into and out of English. It is recognised by the UK Ministry of Justice, and it opens the way to full CIOL membership and to the national register of public service interpreters.
2Who it suits
Arabic-English interpreters in the UK, and those working with courts, hospitals and asylum seekers.
3What it requires
Command of both languages and professional-level interpreting and writing skills. A language runs only when enough candidates enter, so check that Arabic is offered in the next session.
4How it is earned
The exam is taken online. Preparation courses are offered by education providers in the UK, or candidates may enter independently.
When a centre or body posts a course that prepares for it, we send you one email about it.
