1What it is
The professional grade the British institute grants to translators with established careers; holders may use the letters MITI and are listed in the institute's public directory. It is earned by proving experience and passing an assessment of the candidate's work in their language pair, with a parallel route for interpreters. Fellowship sits above it.
2Who it suits
Professional Arabic-English translators working with British or European clients.
3What it requires
At least three years of professional experience shown by references from different organisations, a degree or further years of experience in its place, and completion of the code of professional conduct questionnaire.
4How it is earned
Submit evidence of experience, then have work assessed by qualified members in the same language pair. The institute's page now describes a portfolio assessment, where earlier it was a translation with a commentary, so check the current form before applying.
When a centre or body posts a course that prepares for it, we send you one email about it.
