Novice to Know-How: Digital Preservation Training

Training skill Libraries and archives
Granted by Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC) Usual length Two to three days on average for the beginners' pathway Level Beginner

The awarding body’s page Fees, dates and entry requirements are there, not here.

What it is

A self-paced online pathway in long-term preservation of digital content, combining video, text, short quizzes and tool demonstrations. It opens with a beginners' pathway, followed by standalone courses on providing access to preserved content, email preservation, building a digital asset register, and advocacy within the organisation. It is training, not a professional credential, and its page mentions no certificate on completion.

Who it suits

Librarians and archivists who have become responsible for digital files without prior training, and university libraries preserving theses and research data.

What it requires

None for the beginners' pathway; some later courses assume basic knowledge of digital preservation. The coalition may give priority access to its members and to UK archives for some courses.

How it is earned

Self-registration on the coalition's learning portal, then study at the learner's own pace.
