1What it is
Not an exam-based certificate but membership earned through peer sponsorship, which the profession treats as the mark of a professional conference interpreter. The association admits an interpreter once they reach a minimum number of conference days in each language pair applied for, are sponsored by established members who have heard their work recently, and commit to its code of ethics and working standards. Those not yet eligible can become pre-candidates.
2Who it suits
Simultaneous conference interpreters working between Arabic and English or French at international conferences and organisations.
3What it requires
At least 150 days of conference interpreting, 50 of them in each language pair, and at least three sponsors who are active members, two of them in the applicant's region, with seniority and language conditions the association sets.
4How it is earned
Applications are accepted at two deadlines a year and reviewed by the association's committee on admissions and language classification. A waiver exists for those who cannot find sponsors in their region.
